A historic inner-city cottage underwent significant refurbishment.
Ruth designed a garden that would not only reflect the character and age of the home but provide an intimate space for sensory stimulation and retreat.
The intention of the design was to extend the existing front porch of the home into the garden and provide ease of access through space from the driveway to the front door.
The curvilinear and informal styled design is enhanced by evergreen hedging and topiary which provides a classic look as well as year-round structure and background to the various perennials and bulbs dispersed throughout the foreground of the garden.
The abundance of perennial and scented planting provides ongoing interest throughout the seasons, attracting bees and other insects. Plant life has also been carefully combined to reflect a diversity of height and shape creating visual stimulation and a sense of progression through space.
The circular areas of lawn have been strategically positioned so that views from the key rooms in the house look out onto different areas of the garden.
